London has been named the best connected city in the world, despite 8% still not having broadband.

Research conducted by the Wireless Broadband Alliance for World Wi-Fi Day showed that the capital was the most connected city in the world, with 92% of Londoners enjoying stable broadband connections.

However, this means that 8% of the city is not connected to adequate broadband, which equates to over 600,000 residents.

In general, the WBA showed that 57% of people in urban populations across the world did not have access to broadband, despite the connection strength in London and other European cities.

Chief Executive of the WBA, Shrikant Shenwai, said that such populated areas should not be without broadband.

"There is a clear divide between the digital haves and the digital have-nots.”

"And while this divide generally mirrors socio-economic trends around the world, there are surprisingly high levels of urban unconnected citizens in major cities."

Separate from the UK, broadband connections in major cities across the world have been said to be lacking in general.

The study showed that a fifth of residents in major European cities were still without broadband, with a quarter of city dwellers in North America also lacking.

The Middle East and Africa include the highest amount of unconnected citizens, with 82% of those living in cities still having no access to broadband.
