Properties on Hadrian’s Wall to receive superfast broadband

Properties on a 16 mile stretch of Hadrian’s Wall are due to get superfast broadband for the first time.

Properties on a 16 mile stretch of Hadrian’s Wall are due to get superfast broadband for the first time.

The installation has been made possible due to the iNorthumberland program, which aims to bring superfast broadband to rural homes in the area.

The broadband connection will work via fibre to the premises, allowing for a cable to be linked directly to the properties.

One of the main targets of this rollout is the currently unfinished National Landscape Discovery Centre, which is due to open in 2017.

This property will offer a new attraction for tourists as well as educational benefits for local schools.

It is estimated that it will add £5m more to the local economy due to increased tourism.

Stuart Evans, project director for the site, claimed that broadband was crucial to the area and it was what tourists expected when they visited.

“Visitors will be able to use our wi-fi to interact with exhibits, post photos and share videos on social networking sites in seconds.”

“Universities, colleges and schools will be able to offer high quality study trips from the heart of the national park knowing they will have fast access to online and in-Cloud educational materials.”

The iNorthumberland project has been steadily increasing the reach of broadband in the area, with Hadrian’s Wall its latest success.

Over 145,000 properties in the area have so far been connected, with more expected to join them at some point this year.
