The UK's government's ongoing rollout of superfast broadband has been incredibly successful.
Businesses served by the UK government’s superfast broadband rollout have collectively seen their turnover rise by £9 billion.
New figures published as part of an independent report by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport show that for every £1 invested by the government and local authorities, these businesses saw a £12.28 benefit.
It then went onto state how the project has also reportedly led to the reduction of almost 9,000 jobseekers allowance claims and the creation of nearly 49,000 local jobs.
The government’s ultimate aim is for everyone in the UK to have access to fast and affordable broadband by 2020 before heading for nationwide gigabit connectivity in 2033.
“Our rollout of superfast broadband across the UK has been the most challenging infrastructure project in a generation, but is one of our greatest successes,” said Digital Minister Margot James.
“We are reaching thousands more homes and businesses every week, that can now reap the clear and tangible benefits that superfast broadband provides."
North East England boasts the highest rate of superfast broadband coverage in the UK with an impressive 97.19%.
They’re followed by South East England at 97.07% and the West Midlands at 96.56%.
To date, this ongoing government rollout has helped to connect up over five million homes and businesses across the country who would otherwise have been left in the dark.
