Superfast scheme has “failed customers, says Entanet

The government’s rollout of superfast broadband has failed many customers, broadband provider Entanet has claimed.

One of the major reasons for this, the provider claims, is the letting down of those who live in rural areas.

Some in the firm even claim that the project was originally titled the Rural Broadband Program, which was subsequently dropped.

Paul Heritage-Redpath, Product Manager at Entanet, has claimed that the government were misleading about the scope and size of the broadband they were rolling out.

“Those within the industry know this to be misleading as speed is dependent on a whole host of factors and cannot be guaranteed.”

Mr Heritage-Redpath also stated that the government had previously promised speeds of up to 24Mbps by the end of next year, which has been reduced.

Entanet has insisted that the government is more open and honest about what the limitations of its broadband rollout are, as the general public would be more willing to go along with it.

Another concern that was raised by the provider is the lack of knowledge MPs have about broadband issues, with many not understanding the complexity.

“As our lives become increasingly dependent on the Internet, the faster the connection speeds we’ll come to expect. And while technology will undoubtedly continue to develop to support this insatiable need for connectivity, the need for communication with and the education of the general public will continue unabated.”
