TalkTalk has revealed the aftermath of the cyber attack it suffered in 2015.

The provider claims that during the period, it lost over 100,000 customers, totalling a cost of £60 million.

This cost is the combined consequence of lost customers as well as the trading impact of the attack itself.

The attack, which took place in October 2015, caused thousands of bank details, credit card numbers, customer dates of birth and over a million email addresses to be viewed by hackers.

Dido Harding, TalkTalk’s CEO said that whilst it was a tough period for the provider, she was happy to see some customers responding positively.

“It is encouraging to see the business returning to normal after a challenging quarter that was dominated by the cyber attack.”

“Our customers have responded well, with almost half a million customers choosing to take up our unconditional offer of a free upgrade.”

An investigation into the attack has been ongoing from TalkTalk, with the main focus being on a call centre in Kolkata.

This “forensic review” has resulted in 3 arrests so far, with specific individuals breaching their contract with the provider.

In a statement, TalkTalk said it was working on building trust in the brand once more and that it would continue working with the police as well as reviewing its relationship with call centres.
