Village claims to have the fastest rural broadband

A village which is mentioned in the Doomsday book now has the fastest rural broadband according to the local telecoms group.

The ancient hamlet of Brantingham, in East Riding Yorkshire, is enjoying some of the fastest download speeds recorded by local ISP KC Group.

However, BT has disagreed with the claim, saying that there are “numerous examples” of villages on their network that can achieve higher speeds.

The download speed results for Brantingham could be slightly biased, because the region decided to keep its independent telecom network, while the rest of the country connected to the General Post Office (now BT).

Brantingham only has 370 residents, but 50 out of the 72 premises in the village now use Lightstream superfast broadband from the KC Group.

As a result of the digital technology, the village can now achieve 78Mb download speeds, almost four times faster than the UK average of 17.8Mb.

Chair of the Brantingham Parish Council said: “Members of the parish council worked closely with KC to promote the benefits of fibre broadband and it’s great to see how well it’s been received by residents.

“Good broadband speeds are increasingly important to people wherever they live and we’re thrilled that Brantingham’s on the map as the fastest village for internet connections.”

Across the rest of the UK, BT has partnered with local authorities and the government’s Broadband Delivery UK programme to deliver fibre-optic.

While many are still waiting for their digital upgrade, 95% of the UK is expected to benefit.

For improved download speeds, compare fibre-optic broadband packages from a wide selection of providers.
