Virgin Media calls for feedback on fibre rollout prospect

Virgin Media has asked for feedback from UK counties about the idea of a fibre-optic broadband rollout.

Virgin Media has asked for feedback from UK counties about the idea of a fibre-optic broadband rollout.

The provider launched the Supercharging Local Communities scheme, which aims to bring fibre-optic broadband to areas that want it.

Interested homes and businesses can register their interest with Virgin Media, with countries such as Buckinghamshire, Dorset, Glamorgan and Warwickshire among those eligible for the rollout.

This scheme is part of the provider’s £3 billion expansion plan for the UK, which aims to bring Virgin Media broadband to a much larger consumer base.

Potential customers can register their interest, thereby influencing the decision of where the rollout will begin.

CEO of Virgin Media, Paul Buttery, said that the provider was dedicated to bringing better broadband to the UK.

"Expanding our network to communities across 18 UK counties shows that ultrafast broadband isn’t just for the big cities.”

"We are dedicated to investing and delivering connectivity across the UK. Better broadband brings huge benefits for people and businesses."

Households who take on Virgin Media will be able to enjoy speeds of up to 200Mbps via the VIVID 200 package.

This is allegedly two-and-a-half times faster than speeds offered by rivals Sky and BT, Virgin Media claims.

Businesses can enjoy even higher speeds of up to 300Mbps if they sign up to the program.
