Virgin Media “on track” after record growth in Q1

Virgin Media has released its quarterly results, claiming that it’s on track to add half a million new customers in 2016. 

 

Virgin Media has released its quarterly results, claiming that it’s on track to add half a million new customers in 2016. 

The first 3 months of the year saw the provider grow by 55,000 customers, something which the company says could lead to 500,000 by the end of the year.

Virgin Media has been in the process rolling out is Project Lightning scheme, which is estimated to be worth around £3 billion.

This rollout aims to connect around 4 million homes across the UK to ultrafast speeds by utilising fibre-to-the-premises technology. 

Virgin Media has said that the growth it experience at the start of this year can be attributed to a number of factors, including its existing cable footprint in the UK and its winter advertising campaigns. 

As well as new customers, the company revealed that over half of its 5.1 million broadband subscribers are taking advantage of its 100Mbps speed package.

In the press release, the company said that Virgin Media would keep up with the strong demand for high-speed broadband. 

“We will prioritise build based on the level of interest received.”

“Demand remains strong and we are continuing to work closely with our partners to ensure a smooth and efficient process from planning through build, sales and installation.”

In March, Virgin Media unveiled its Supercharging Local Communities scheme, which gave the opportunity for 18 different counties to receive ultrafast broadband to their door by registering their interest. 

This has joined the TechCity programme, which aims to hook up businesses in cities such as Birmingham and Manchester with ultrafast broadband, to create Virgin Media’s full portfolio of rollouts.
