Vodafone to invest billions in UK 4G network

Vodafone has announced that it will expand the mobile broadband network across the UK.

Vodafone has announced that it will expand the mobile broadband network across the UK.

The mobile operator claimed it would be invested £2 billion into its 4G network, with the aim to cover the vast majority of the country.

One of the first cities to benefit from the upgrade is Brighton, which Vodafone aims to provide with 98% coverage.

Vodafone will use a new system when upgrading cities such as Brighton. This ‘4G overlay’ creates better coverage both indoors and outdoors, as well as being better equipped to deal with high amounts of data.

It is estimated that mobile broadband users in Brighton users an average of 1.5TB everyday, with the figure being boosted by the recent upgrade.

4G takes up the majority of the data used in Brighton, with 60% of traffic in the city being 4G.

Despite this, Vodafone has also upgraded its 3G system in the city, allowing for better voice calls and faster mobile internet services.

The 4G upgrade that Brighton has received is set to be replicated in 750 locations across the UK, including major cities and smaller towns.

Rural towns are also set to get improved mobile broadband, with areas in Wales already benefitting.

Properties in Flintshire and Carmarthenshire have seen 3G services for the first time thanks to Vodafone’s Rural Community Pub programme.
