Broadband and TV Packages
Broadband and digital TV packages are becoming increasingly popular as more and more people are recognising the cost savings when combining both services.
People are increasingly tuning into their favourite programs online, through platforms such as BBC iPlayer and 4oD, so it is natural for a digital TV provider to offer broadband to their subscribers. As the countdown to the digital switchover continues apace, more and more people are switching from the old analogue system to digital TV, to enjoy a greater range of channels and choice.
Broadband and TV deals are normally part of the 'triple play' and 'quad play' bundles, where the broadband provider is able to offer broadband alongside digital TV, fixed-line phone calls as well as mobile phone services.
Rather than just a straight bundle of next-gen digital TV entertainment alongside a broadband offering, some Broadband and TV deals allow you to set recordings on your digital set top box from your desktop, so if you realise you've forgotten to set recordings, you can set it up so that you can remotely set recordings from a computer or your mobile.
There are generally two types of Broadband and TV offer, one where the broadband package comes bundled with a subscription based digital TV offering (in which case the broadband may be free or heavily discounted) and one where the digital TV offering is an IPTV variety. Subscription offerings include digital satellite TV and cable give you a greater range of channels, high definition (HD) content, on-demand viewing and the ability to pause, record and rewind TV using your remote.
IPTV packages give you access to the same digital terrestrial channels you get on Freeview, and allow you to download additional content, such as movies, entire seasons of programmes, and music videos on a pay per view basis. The set top boxes which come with IPTV offerings also include the ability to pause, record and rewind live TV as it is being broadcast.

How to Switch
If you aren’t happy with your current broadband service, you can always consider switching broadband provider. There are many reasons why people stick with the same provider, but checking out different deals could save you money, and give you the service that you really want. If you are thinking about switching broadband provider, our broadband switch experts have put together a few tips, tricks and ideas to help you.
Before switching broadband provider you must get your MAC or Migration Authorisation Code from your original provider; this is an alphanumeric number which your new broadband supplier will need in order to instigate your switch. All you have to do is phone your old provider and ask for the code; they are obliged to give it to you and you should receive it within 5 days, with its validity lasting for 30 days.
Beware of the sales people working for your original ISP, or internet service provider. They will have some kind of sales retention team that will work to keep you, but if you have made up your mind then stick with it.
It is also important that you do not cancel your current contract with immediate effect after you receive the MAC code; there’s a chance the switch could take over a week, and you probably do not want to be without broadband for any length of time. Once you have the MAC code you can move forward with your new broadband deal, and start enjoying a service that suits you.
