BT, EE and Plusnet announce new fixed rate price hikes
How are your bills affected?

BT, EE and Plusnet have confirmed changes to their mid-contract pricing structure across their mobile and broadband services. The updates introduce increases to their fixed-amount annual price rises, which previously replaced a pricing model linked to inflation.
Here’s what customers need to know:
Service | New Annual Increase | Old Annual Increase |
Broadband | £4/month | £3/month |
SIM-Only Mobile | £2.50/month | £1.50/month |
Handset Bundles | £4/month | £4/month |
TV packages bundled with broadband will also incur an additional £2 per month. Customers who qualify for social tariffs are exempt from these increases.
Why are prices increasing?
BT says these latest increases support continued investment in next-gen networks - like 5G standalone and Wi-Fi 7 - while aiming to offer predictability in pricing.
Changes in regulation, led by Ofcom, now require telecom providers to display the exact amounts of their mid-contract price hikes in pounds and pence, improving clarity for consumers.
But despite these transparency gains, customers on low-cost or entry-level contracts may now face higher percentage increases compared to inflation-linked rises.
How can you avoid price hikes?
These new price hikes only apply to new and re-contracting BT, EE and Plusnet customers. But if you’re coming up on the end of your contract, it might be worth having a look at your options.
Do your research to find out what else is out there, and compare the prices - and price rises - of other companies. If you don’t want to switch, you might be able to negotiate a better deal for yourself with your current supplier.
