New study shows 1 in 3 households suffer wifi notspots

A third of UK households can't get online in every room of the house.

New research from ISP Zen Internet has revealed that 1 in 3 households can’t access the internet in every room of the house.

They found that 18% of those surveyed have moved their router elsewhere in the hopes of erasing these “wifi notspots” while 15% have invested in a wifi extender in an attempt to boost the signal.

A further 26% said that they were forced to avoid going online in certain rooms of the house due to connection issues.

“With WiFi connectivity throughout the home now an expected requirement for modern-day living, it's unacceptable that families are still struggling to connect to their WiFi in whatever room they want,” said Paul Stobart Zen Internet CEO.

21% have actually gone to the effort of returning connected devices, including smart TVs, lights and heating controls, because they weren’t able to get them working where they wanted.

UK households have returned connected devices, like smart TVs, lights and heating controls, because they didn’t work as promised in the intended location.

This, experts at Zen Internet claim, could have cost retailers as much as £2 billion in lost revenue.

22% of respondents felt like ISPs were to blame for their wifi notspots and 21% believe that they’re caused by the presence of too many devices on the network at one time.

The Rochdale-based ISP partnered with Censuswide to conduct the survey gathering data from a sample size of 2,001 respondents between 1st and 4th November 2019.
