Community Fibre broadband: Our expert review

A great-value broadband provider for London and the surrounding areas

What is Community Fibre broadband?

Community Fibre is a UK alternative broadband provider focused on full‑fibre (FTTP) connectivity, especially across London and some neighbouring areas, with all 32 boroughs of the capital covered plus growing coverage to parts of Surrey and Sussex.

It delivers ultra‑fast, symmetrical download/upload speeds, modern routers, and a growing set of add‑ons, all backed by generally strong customer feedback.

Community Fibre has also now included a TV offering, helping them to rival the likes of Sky, Virgin Media and BT more effectively.

For those able to access its network, it presents as a high‑performance broadband option, though with certain trade‑offs around coverage and annual price adjustments.

Is Community Fibre broadband any good?

Community Fibre is ideal for people who need very fast and reliable broadband: gamers, streamers, remote workers, tech savvy households, or those uploading large files regularly.

With unfathomably fast symmetrical upload and download speeds and TV offerings to boot, Community Fibre is a solid option against the other standard bog providers.

If you live in a covered London borough or in parts of Surrey/Sussex with access, it’s one of the top options out there. If your usage is light (streaming, browsing) and your area is not covered, other providers may suffice until coverage expands. Otherwise, Community Fibre is a very solid choice.

Here are some key highlights of their offering:

Ultra fast, symmetrical full fibre – Up to multi‑gigabit speeds with symmetrical upload and download, something which many other top providers can’t offer.

Strong value in lower to mid‑speed tiers – Good value for money for lower speeds plus free setup (applicable to packages on Broadband Finder).

Excellent customer satisfaction and reliability – A strong Trustpilot score and overall good reviews point to a trustworthy and reliable network.

How fast are Community Fibre’s speeds?

Community Fibre offers a wide range of symmetrical full‑fibre speed tiers; from modest to ultra high‑end, all of its options are available on a full fibre line to provide the fastest and most consistent speeds.

Here are the speeds available through Broadband Finder:

  • 75Mbps - 75Mbps average wired upload & download speed
  • 100Mbps - 100Mbps average wired upload & download speed
  • 150Mbps - 150Mbps average wired upload & download speed
  • 500Mbps - 500Mbps average wired upload & download speed
  • 1000Mbps - 920Mbps average wired upload & download speed
  • 5Gbps - 5000Mbps average wired upload & download speed

How much is Community Fibre broadband?

Community Fibre is seen as offering strong value, especially once you get past the very high‑speed tiers. Its lower and mid‑speed plans (75‑300 Mbps) tend to undercut or match what number of major providers charge for similar service quality.

The inclusion of free router hardware and mesh Wi‑Fi in many deals, plus a very low setup cost or none, helps.

Currently*, the cheapest Community Fibre broadband package cost which can be found on the Broadband Finder website is the 100 Mbps Fibre Broadband (24 Month Contract) package, which costs £19 a month.

On the flip side, the most expensive package at current* is the 5 Gbps Premier WiFi Full Fibre Broadband (24 Month) package, which costs £59 a month.

You may notice on the website that Community Fibre implements an annual price increase. While inconvenient, it is not uncommon. Most providers, including all the major networks, have an annual price increase which varies depending on the provider.

It should also be noted that Community Fibre offers both 12-month and 24-month contract options, with pricings varying between the two.

Community Fibre broadband: Technical specs & installation

Community Fibre supplies modern routers, often including mesh Wi‑Fi routers to improve coverage, especially on higher speed or “Premium WiFi” plans.

For example, speeds up to 1 Gbps use a strong WiFi 6/mesh router, while the multi‑gigabit tiers (2.5‑5 Gbps) use higher spec routers capable of handling those loads.

Here are the various routers they use:

  • Linksys WiFi (packages under 100Mbps speeds)
  • Linksys MX20 (packages with speeds between 100-500Mbps)
  • Linksys WiFi Dual Band MX57 (packages with speeds above 500Mbps up to 2.5Gbps Premium inclusive)
  • Technicolor FGA5330 (packages of 5Gbps speeds and premium)

Installation requirements

An engineer visit may be required if you do not already have the Community Fibre network already setup in the home. It’s not a case of simply plugging in and off you go - installation involves bringing fibre into the premises, installing a fibre termination point, routing the cable, and fitting the router.

This is because Community Fibre runs and operates its own pure fibre network, as opposed to using the widely available Openreach network. Most installs are reported to take under two hours in standard homes.

If you’re in an apartment or building with shared infrastructure, there may be extra work to bring fibre into the communal parts first. You woul need to contact your building manager in order to proceed with installation (we would highly recommend doing this before purchasing).

Community Fibre also offers a WiFi guarantee on certain tiers - e.g. the 1 Gbps and higher plans - where if minimum WiFi coverage in “rooms” isn’t met, they supply mesh routers and may offer compensation.

Community Fibre: Customer service & support

If you are in need of support, Community Fibre has various ways in which they aim, to help you, starting with their troubleshooting tool, which helps in cases where you find you have no internet.

They have various helpful articles that may address any and all issues, and there is a contact form should you want more direct help.

If you are in need of immediate help directly from someone, they are on hand to help via the live chat on their website or via their customer service helpline on 0800 082 0770.

They also have a dedicated phone number for help with purchasing packages if you feel the need to speak to someone to help figure out what’s right for you. The number to call is 0808 196 6262.

Customer feedback

Customer feedback for Community Fibre is generally very positive. Its 4.7 stars out of 5 Trustpilot rating from over 71,000 reviews is excellent showing; many customers call out speed reliability, good service patterns, and responsive support.

That said, some users have noted issues: in very high‑speed tiers or during network expansion, there have occasionally been delays in installation, or periods of service issues or outages.

Also, while upload/download symmetry and speed are strong, actual speeds over WiFi can be significantly less than wired speeds, especially in large or thick‑walled properties - though this isn’t a Community Fibre so much as a common general WiFi querk, where that a wired connection will always provide better and more stable speeds and connectivity.

Community Fibre broadband: What we think

Overall, Community Fibre offers some of the best full‑fibre broadband available in the UK where its network exists - which may be a bit limited, but the point still stands.

Its speeds are among the highest, uploads match downloads, the hardware is good, and value in many plans is excellent.

The limited availability may be a drawback, but for those who can access it, it represents a high‑quality, future‑proof broadband choice.
