Truespeed to give 50 schools free ultrafast broadband

The gigabit capable service will soon be in a variety of schools across Bath and North Somerset.

Bath-based provider Truespeed is to equip 50 schools across the rural Bath and North Somerset area with access to free ultrafast broadband.

Marksbury school in Bath, Churchill Academy in Winscombe and Abbot’s Way school in Glastonbury have already been connected up with the latter reporting speeds as high as 200Mbps.

Its been confirmed that all of the 31 schools in the Bath & Wells Multi Academy Trust will also be included in the rollout meaning 7,800 pupils and over 1,400 members of staff are set to benefit.

Speedy, reliable broadband is now essential for schools as many teachers require digital technologies and cloud-based services to both plan and teach the curriculum. Email is also a very convenient way of keeping in touch with parents.

When asked about the new service the headteacher of Marksbury Primary School Julie Player said:

“Now teachers can now make the most of cloud-based storage for lesson planning, as well as a whole host of valuable cloud-based teaching aids accessible via interactive smart boards during lessons.”

“Pupils also get to do more real-world learning in class - an important part of the curriculum - by using school iPads to access the internet and connect with local businesses. We have also been able to resurrect our dedicated ICT lessons.”

Truespeed aims to rollout out this ultrafast service to 75,000 homes and businesses in South West England by the end of 2021.
